Vitamin D

Vitamin D can help reduce your risk of getting cardiovascular disease because it can help reduce inflammation. Vitamin D can be found in fatty fish, fortified cereals and eggs, as well as natural sunlight.

Vitamin B9 or Folic acid

This vitamin is beneficial for the heart as it decreases the level of homocysteine and prevents the thickening of the coronary arteries. Vitamin B9 is essential for protein metabolism and the formation of red blood cells. Because Folate is heat and light sensitive, fruits and vegetables should not be stored at room temperature for long periods of time. Handling and processing of foods can also reduce its Folate content.

Vitamin B9 can be found in asparagus, beans, broccoli, kidney, lentils, liver, mushrooms, orange juice, organ meats, potatoes, soybeans, wheat germ, whole-grain cereals.

Vitamin B12

This vitamin converts the harmful homocysteine in the blood into the harmless amino acid methionine. Read more about Vitamin B12 here.

dairy-products

Vitamin B12 is found in animal products such as meat, shellfish, milk, cheese, and eggs. Most people who eat meat are not likely to develop a vitamin B12 deficiency. There is normally enough vitamin B12 stored in a person’s liver to last a year, even if the person does not eat any foods that contain the vitamin during that time.

Vitamin B3

This vitamin or Niacin helps in the reduction of LDL and increasing the HDL in the blood which in turn helps in reducing the plaque or cholesterol deposited in the blood arteries.

Tuna fillet

tuna is available in organic varieties which sometimes contain even more nutrients–as opposed to farm-raised varieties. As a whole, tuna fish provides more nutrients than most other lean protein sources.

Vitamin F

This is a heart-healthy fat. It is high in α-Linolenic and omega-3 oils. Take 1 to 2 tsp. of flax seed or fish oil for omega-3 acids or 2 tsp. of canola oil.

Rich sources of folate include dark green vegetables, beans and fortified cereals. Some fruits, such as cantaloupe, honeydew melon, oranges and orange and grapefruit juices, are also good sources of folate.
